If South Carolina weren’t a place of such breathtaking beauty (and it is, trust me), with an amazingly temperate climate, a low cost of living, one of the most storied college football coaches ever, and fresh seafood to die for, I would have to tell it to go fuck itself for emerging from Tuesday’s election with no women in the state Senate. None. Zero.
Damnit.

Remember Beach Bum, SC is a state that until a decade ago thought the concept of funding an all male military school (The Citadel) w/100% state funds was just the best thing in the world….and the vast majority of the women in the state were ok with the concept! For all it’s beauty, the state remains an enigma to me.

Most definitely, GreenEye. You know how they say, “In the upstate, it’s ‘where do you go to church,’ in Columiba it’s ‘where do you work,’ and on the coast it’s ‘what’re you drinking?'” I just try to stick to the coast.
And I must say that the drive down along the coast today on Highway 17, through the Francis Marion National Forest, past the sweetgrass basket sellers, over the soaring bridges into Charleston was simply magnificent. I left my heart in East Tennessee, but the Lowcountry ain’t a bad consolation prize.

I was down there for about 5 years total, between Columbia and MB. The coast is my preference too. Concur, the drive from G’town down into Charleston is dreamy. I also like the Georgia coast around Savannah. This makes me want to drive down there for one more taste before I move in the coming months!

We have a U.S. Senator (hey blanche!) who I’ve actually sorta-met and seems OK. But I think she’s being targeted for 2010, and I’m really not sure what will happen. If Huckabee runs, she’s SOL. But I suspect he wants to give president another go in 2012.

Not to start shit, but North Carolina is the superior Carolina. Although, y’all do have a lovely coastline down there. Just don’t go any farther west.
